Happiness is something we are all seeking,  yes? It’s what keeps us moving towards our goals, right?

What if nothing outside of us made us happy? What if Abraham Lincoln was right, that we are as happy as we make up our minds to be? I believe there is truth in that statement. No matter what we are facing we can be happy. We can find a sense of peace and contentment in any situation, even the most challenging.

I ask you to notice where you are searching for happiness outside of yourself. Are you seeking something that once you achieve or receive you’ll be happy? Is happiness outside of you? Is it in things, people, achievements? I want you to notice.

Rate your level of happiness and then notice where you place your happiness. Is it within your power or is it outside of you?

Notice, this is powerful!

If you are placing happiness outside of yourself, no wonder you’re not feeling it because it’s not yours. You’re allowing it to be held away from you. You have the power to be happy, to can choose happy right now. Any reason you can’t choose happy? Choose happy. If you’re so stressed out or in such struggle you’re not able to choose happy, ask yourself what you can be grateful for. What is it you can be grateful for in the midst of your struggle, stress, life, whatever the tough situation you’re identifying with right now. Find gratitude within each situation, moment, person impacting your life and close by you will find happiness (possibly contentment if happiness is a stretch).

Aristotle said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.”

I hope you take a moment to make a list, take a mental note and see where you’re happy and unhappy. Notice where you place it outside yourself. Allow yourself the opportunity to take your happiness back. See what extraordinary things happen when you become the generator of your happiness. You’ll be amazed and feel like magic is happening!
